fun cartoons (history)
The series known as “Schoolhouse Rock” began appearing in the mid 1970’s and covered everything from history to math and science. Of course, my favorite ones were the history ones (and conjunction junction). Here are a trio of 3 minute videos about events surrounding the American Revolution with a couple of questions.
video # 1 No More Kings
Our presidents are term limited to 2 terms or 10 years maximum. Imagine having the same king for 59 years!
1) How is King George III’s mental stability presented in this video? Do a couple minutes of internet research research on George’s medical history. In your opinion, is this an accurate portrayal of the King of England (ruled from 1760 to 1820)
video # 2 Fireworks (About the Declaration of Independence)
2) At time index : 41 why is a woman loading a cannon? Can you figure out which historical figure this is based on? If not, it will be revealed when I cover the later battles of the American Revolution.
3) What is on the back page of the newspaper the king is reading at time index 1:32?
video # 3 The Shot Heard Round the World
4) Name five battles mentioned in this video. (note: Valley Forge was winter quarters but there was no battle there). Which very notable 1777 battle is left out?
